《小窗幽記》全書分為醒、情峭、靈、素、景、韻、奇、
綺、豪、法、倩十二卷,計一千五百餘條。內容博采群書,萃集
眾要,涵蓋了自先秦至明末的儒、釋、道及諸子百家著作。從文
體上說,包括了楚辞、漠賦、六朝駢文、唐詩、宋詞、元曲、明
小說,及各種雜著中的格言。
從時代而言,本書選取的明人著作最多,如陳繼儒的《岩
棲幽事》,吳從先的《小窗自紀》,洪應明的《菜根譚》,陸樹
聲的《避暑清話》,袁宏道的《瓶史》,呂坤的《呻吟語》,唐
寅的《落花詩冊》,李贄的《焚書》等,不一而足。
